Savor the unspoiled beauty of Little St. Simons Island, a famed bird and wildlife refuge open to no more than 30 guests at a time. Explore marshes and beaches along the Georgia coast; watch for dolphins and deer, sea turtles and sandpipers.
Step back in time as you cruise in from the mainland — you're entering a 10,000-acre preserve where seasoned naturalists share the story of a century of conservation. Search moss-draped forests for eagle's nests, lizards and tree frogs; glide past wading birds in your canoe; stroll the beach at sunrise to find sea turtles' nests and view some of the island's 280 species of birds. Take a day trip to explore habitats and history on nearby Sapelo Island, site of a research reserve operated by Conservancy partners. In your spare time, go hiking, biking and kayaking ... or opt for fishing, book-and-hammock afternoons and evening activities such as “Owl Prowls” or “Wildlife Spotlighting.” Each day, sample fresh cuisine: oysters roasted over an open fire, wild Georgia shrimp, and other Southern specialties. At night, hear about the Conservancy's work in maritime communities across the southern U.S. before settling into your cottage. All week, you'll see why this area inspired the famous poem, “The Marshes of Glynn.” You too will feel “Free/By a world of marsh that borders a world of sea.”
